In a few days (a week more or less) I was able to play Gran Turismo Sport (the VR mode which is very lacking) for more than an hour without getting sick. I was very upset about this and was regretting my purchase, but the following days I started playing VR games (including Skyrim) in short bursts (10 minutes or a bit more). When I first got my PSVR I played Skyrim and got pretty ill. It only gives instructions for using a USB-C cable to connect though.Ĭlick to shrink.A lot of people (if not most, I don't know) can overcome motion sickness.
These steps are mostly going off of my memory (I haven't connected my headset to my PC in a few months), but they should be almost exact.ĮDIT: Here's the page on Oculus's website.
I also discovered that I’m not sensitive to motion sickness so YMMV, but playing with full continuous motion instead of teleporting, the immersion is incredibly realistic.
I haven’t felt like this since I was a kid. I exit the area by physically grabbing with both hands and opening a heavy door, and soon after, a cutscene begins where a flying robot flies in my face, and suddenly I’m 30 minutes in with the surprise and visual delight just ramping up over time. Then I walk up to the rail and look down and see people gathering on the street, so I throw a brick down there at the people and while it misses, the brick reacts to hitting the street. I walk upstairs and physically press my game finger down onto a radio button to receive a call, and then I notice I can write and erase with a marker on the glass WTF. Then I realize I can grab items with realistic physics and walk around my room to stoop down and grab objects off the floor and look at them. I’ve never seen such a detailed VR game environment. I boot up the game and my jaw hits the floor.
That’s what I was convinced of by the time I reached the early lake boss of RE4.Īs a result, I decided to get over my grudge for Windows and buy one of these and justify it based on the fact I’m a computational PhD student: Īfter some tuning and an Oculus Link Cable, I’m running Alyx on High/Ultra settings. It’s incredible and absolutely the evolution of video games and to be honest, more than just video games (e.g. Now I’m fucking wondering why everyone else isn’t betting the family farm on VR. I’ve enjoyed meditating, climbing, swimming, dancing, shooting and stabbing in virtual reality in surprisingly polished ways that I thought were too ambitious for video games. I’ve been very impressed and enjoyed seeing the natural evolution of VR software.
RE4 VR was my first foray back into VR since then and exploring what the current OQ2/VR software market is. I’ve played the Vive at a friends house about 5 years ago and was blown away at first but I got bored with the fact that most VR software felt like test demos and bite-sized games and ideas at that time. I got a Quest 2 a few days ago to play it. Resident Evil 4 VR has been an eye opener for me.
